This is a story from the Second World War which my father has told .
After the entire occupation of France in 1942 my father was in Montblanc , to a small village close to Agde ( department Herault ) the French coast has quartered and with a French family .
Monsieur Robert and Madame Isabelle (I do not know the surnames any more ) have taken up the " enemy " friendly , so that a right friendship developed . First once my father took his meals with the family . He had announceed departure with the German catering and received the weekly ration handed over and Madame this thrown away .
Monsieur Robert was a bu ilding contractor and the material procurement in this time was not easy absolutely . And the German soldier was helpful there . My put Monsieur Robert in one of his German u niforms and went with him in the truck to the material procurement. Besides , got , this would probably have meant the court martial with serious results for b oth .
But also in the spare time there were safe " plays ". Robert had , although this was forbidden strictly , still his hunting gun and my father knew this . But to announce instead of him , the b oth went together on the hunt .
22 years later , my father had in 1964 his first car and went with my mother to Spain on vacation . There were the today's highways at that time still long and thus the route led after the south and then along the Mediterranean Sea , -
My father drove up in the house and got out . And from the house which had not changed there came Madame Isabelle welcomed and embraced my parents , just in such a way as if my father has gone yesterday . The greeting was so kind and my parents had to remain a few days and experienced the French hospitality once more . They got the same room which my father had inhabited during the war . And also this was u nchanged . ( With u nadvised working with his submachine gun a salvo had freed itself and had hit in the chimney . These shots still lt clearly existed .
Then the were still continued many years , u ntil the age set to the travelling limits .
Monsieur Robert has died in 1945. The family has told about it nothing , b ut it seems sure that to him the friendship with the " enemy " has b ecome the disaster .
